An extravagance design by planner Richard Meier and his accomplice Michael Palladino, this cool Southern California shoreline house is the encapsulation of cool. Fronting the Pacific Sea to the south, a yard to the west and the Pacific Coast Thruway to the north, this 4,280-sq.-ft. shoreline house follows in the convention of SoCal's yard houses that open to the outside.

This light and vaporous design invites inhabitants and visitors into a two-story glass-encased passage, driving into the enclosure, fundamental oceanfront house and visitor house. The two-story anteroom is cut up by a glass extension and walkway, with the home living zones on either side. A present day, open-to-above lounge room opens to the deck sitting above the sea.

Floor-two-roof glass is shaded with sunscreens and louvers, giving protection while keeping up a feeling of openness to the outside. "The bars at the top, placed over the flat encircling, express the structural mood and layering of segments," clarifies the engineer. "This rhythm is rehashed with the joinery of the painted aluminum outside divider boards and particular windows. The mass of the outside mortar dividers are compared to the straightforward coated veneers, making a mosaic of layered materials
